Friday 20th March – ski **** - Le Chevrerie – sunny with light winds.

After yesterday’s brilliant ski, the first for 6 years our poor old bodies were suffering so when we went to bed last night, we thought we might head off somewhere for an easy show shoe somewhere but the day broke sunny again so we thought it was too good an opportunity not to give skiing another go as it will probably be the last for this year! So, we had a relaxing start in the quiet Le Chevrerie ski station car park right over by the mountain stream watching the kids go sledging, Mag made porridge while I packed a picnic before struggling into our ski boots and walking over to get another 5-hour lift pass, for some reason it was 10 Euros more that yesterday! Before getting on the lift at 10.20 heading straight to the top to do the best run on the mountain, the 5 km run to St. Jean D’ Aulps and I actually made it to the bubble without falling over but my old legs ache! Then up to the restaurant again for another cold beer for me and a hot chocolate for Mag, sitting in the warm sunshine taking in the mountain scenery, it was even quieter than yesterday and we were entertained by youngsters doing slalom training! Well, rested we headed up the 4-man chair to film a video of ‘old people’ skiing which was great fun:) Down into the Combe of Graydon for a run down the red and back to the picnic area for lunch, yet more yummy corned beef rolls with a cuppa from our trusty flask! Then as we were really knackered now it was up to the Col de Graydon to do the 5 km red back to the van, so a shorter session today but skiing really does take its toll on old bodies. We packed up the van set Mags phone for Thorens – Glieres which is the way to Annecy and picked up the signs to the Plateau which is accessed by the most amazing steep and windy mountain road past a really long waterfall! The Plateau is well known for a monument to the French Resistance and for a large cross country ski area which is still open! We relaxed with a cuppa and a couple of slices of fruit bread as the sun set behind us and the piste bashers started to work!
